Dr. Mike J. Ng is a board-certified licensed acupuncturist in San Francisco.

Born and raised in the city, Dr. Mike graduated summa cum laude from the University of San Francisco (USF) with his undergraduate degree in Communication and Chinese Studies.  During his time at USF, Dr. Mike was actively involved in research that examined the intersection of interpersonal communication and health outcomes, including compliance-gaining strategies for promoting health behavior change and message design strategies for explaining illness.  His work has been presented to both the National Communication Association and the American Public Health Association.  In recognition of his scholastic achievements, Dr. Mike was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit Honor Society, Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society, as well as the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.  Following USF, Dr. Mike attended the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, renowned as one of the top public health programs in the nation, where he studied community health sciences, health education and health promotion, social determinants of health, and integrative medicine.

While his education in health communication and public health confirmed his passion for working in healthcare, Dr. Mike's ties to Chinese medicine trace back much further, to his grandfather, Dr. Tan Jinhong, who was a traditional Chinese medicine doctor and martial arts master. At the age of five, Dr. Mike followed in his grandfather's footsteps and embarked on what would become a lifelong journey in movement, martial arts, and medicine.  Over the next thirty years, Dr. Mike would devote his life to pursuing in-depth studies in the internal martial arts of Tai Chi, Bagua, and Qigong, collectively considered to be one of the five pillars of traditional Chinese medicine.  Dr. Mike’s journey afforded him the privilege to study with some of the world’s foremost experts in the internal arts, Chinese medicine, philosophy, meditation, mindfulness, and breathwork, and he earned his Corrective Exercise Specialist certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).  Active in the competitive arena for many years, Dr. Mike is also a champion martial artist with nine international grand championship titles and a place in the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

Since 2012, Dr. Mike has worked with hundreds of private clients, groups, and organizations to design mind-body movement therapies to manage stress and anxiety, improve balance and mobility, boost energy levels, and enhance quality of life.  Witnessing first-hand the remarkable rewards each of his students achieved through movement alone, coupled with his own personal experience with acupuncture, made Dr. Mike’s next step crystal clear: he had to learn the complete system of Chinese medicine. It was then that he matriculated into the inaugural class of the first professional doctorate program at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM).  Graduating from ACTCM with his Doctor of Acupuncture and Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine degrees, Dr. Mike has served as an adjunct professor at his alma mater since 2019, helping to nurture the next generation of Chinese medicine practitioners.
